The Hartford Preservation Alliance (HPA) is a volunteer-operated 501(C)(3) organization dedicated to the preservation and revitalization of the unique architectural heritage and neighborhood character of Hartford, Connecticut.

Historic buildings are community assets that can play an important role in creating value and stabilizing neighborhoods. Since its formation in 1998, HPA has played a key role in:

  • Saving buildings from demolition
  • Having historic properties placed on the National Register of Historic Places
  • Recognizing individuals, organizations and businesses that have revitalized buildings
  • Educating the public on the State Historic Home Ownership Tax Credit program

HPA havs achieved a number of significant accomplishments over the past several years, including:

  • The listing of additional Hartford neighborhoods on the National and State Registers of Historic Places
  • Successful campaigns to save 410 Asylum Street and 47 Sigourney Street from demolition
  • A survey of architecturally significant buildings and streetscapes in Hartford neighborhoods
  • Popular historic walking tours and preservation events, including co-sponsorship of the annual Preservation Week awards

HPA is currently working on ensuring that a Historic Preservation Ordinance be adopted by the City of Hartford, as well as advocating the need for a Design Center.
