This section illustrates the numerous ordinances, laws, methods and programs available in Connecticut to protect and preserve our irreplaceable architectural, historical, and cultural heritage. Programs listed include the Connecticut Main Street Program which helps revitalize downtowns into more commercially successful and architecturally appealing business areas. The Village Districts Act is a state statute that allows municipalities to designate and regulate sections of their town in order to preserve the community's character and protect significant landscape features and historic structures. Demolition Delay Ordinances can provide municipalities with an effective tool to prevent the loss of threatened buildings and the State's Environmental Protection Act gives citizens the ability to file suit to prevent the destruction of historic structures. These are just some of the programs and ordinances available. Please refer to the navigation menu to the left for additional information and programs Another important tool in the protection of our state's historic treasures is the Local Historic District/Property Statute.
